Getting Off The Canvas
Inspired by Speakers Corner in London, I implemented Coaches Corner – Ask Me Anything for the past four weeks. There would be no high-pressure sales pitch; it was about having a conversation on any topic that was raised.
I was fired up looking forward to having stimulating conversations about life & business.
However, the number of people who turned up each week did not meet my expectations.
My first reaction was that the initiative had been a waste of my time and energy. Using a boxing analogy, I was knocked down to the canvas!
I responded by going into Judgement mode of blaming myself for the lack of enthusiasm for the initiative. With this mindset, I felt like no matter how hard I tried I was never going to be on a winner! I had no desire to launch other initiatives I had in mind.
As I reflected on what happened over the past four weeks, I made a different choice…I showed myself some compassion by acknowledging and accepting I am not perfect, and neither is life. I accepted I did my best with Coaches Corner. It didn’t work as I had expected and that is OK!!
In making a different choice, I was reminded of the quote by Muhammad Ali:
“You don’t lose if you get knocked down; you lose if you stay down”
