What’s Next?
When commencing a coaching conversation, my approach is to discuss what will make the conversation a really valuable one for the client.
In the past week, two business owners responded with the same challenge – having attained a significant long-standing goal, they found themselves standing at a crossroad seeking an answer to the pivotal question “What’s Next?”
Both having reached the top of the mountain, they were reflecting on whether there are more goals to be pursued and if so, what those may entail.
My initial counsel was to highlight the entirely reasonable option of maintaining the status-quo and savouring the fruits of their labour. Both were emphatic with their response – staying where they were was not an option. They were hungry to find new mountains to climb!
As the conversation progressed, it became clear that for both business owners, there was not a simple singular answer to the question “What’s Next?”. Instead, it was a dynamic, evolving, and continuous journey of self-discovery and growth. They must commit to start a journey to find the next summit even though the shape or form of it is uncertain.
With the faith and courage displayed in their respective journeys to date, I have no doubt these business owners will discover and conquer that summit.
