Am I Losing My Edge?
“How uncomfortable are you feeling right now?”
As I slumped back in my chair struggling to come up with an answer.
I had been walking my coach through my reflections about the past twelve months – what I had learned and what I was carrying into the new year. My big insight: if I wanted to drive my business forward, I needed to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Before I could come up with an answer, my coach continued: “You have spent your whole life putting yourself into uncomfortable positions. That discomfort drove the decisions, that created the momentum that got you where you are today. But now? You are comfortable. The business is working. Life is in balance. And yet here you are stressed about what is.”
I looked at her intently.
“You are uncomfortable with being comfortable”
I stared out the window.
My coach leaned forward: “Your biggest challenge in 2026? Get comfortable with being comfortable!”
I sat there quietly replaying in my mind the last twelve months – a business that was humming, living life and genuinely loving both. There was no fire to be put out. No crisis to be resolved.
I was just comfortable.
And I had been acting like there was something wrong.
