Making My Bed Changed My World

During my recent trip to Mt Gambier, I was driving to a client, excited about the day ahead, when the client rang to say he will have to defer our conversation as he was going in iso having just returned a positive RAT.

Later that same morning, another client scheduled for that afternoon, rang to apologise for not proceeding with our conversation as she was in iso as her two boys had both tested positive for Covid.

After taking those two phone calls, I felt deflated and miserable.  As a result, I spent the rest of the day moping around making myself busy but feeling like I was not achieving anything!

As I went to bed that night and saw a bed that was made, I remembered the speech by Admiral McRaven of the US Navy about changing the world wherein he said:

If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride.  If by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made—and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.

In that moment I felt a sense of accomplishment for the day in that I had made my bed that morning.  I felt my mindset change to one of pride in that accomplishment and went to bed encouraged that tomorrow will be a better day.

My message is Admiral McRaven is right…I made my bed and it changed my world
