What choice would you make?
In the past week I reconnected with a client after 10 years who was seeking clarity about a choice she was confronted with.
The initial part of the conversation covered what she had been doing since our last conversation 10 years ago including:
- Giving birth to a baby girl with the assistance of IVF
- Caring for her partner who was suffering from cancer
- Separating from the same partner after he became addicted to gambling and was stalking her family
- Spending a substantial part of her wealth to separate from that partner and secure the safety of her family
- Built a coaching/consulting business that was returning a six-figure income, which was allowing her to rebuild her wealth with opportunities to continue the business further
- She was enjoying being a single mum raising her daughter
As she outlined the above, I was wondering what value I was going to bring to the conversation as it appeared she had achieved balance in her business and personal life.
As it turned out the reason she reached out was that in the past month she had been approached to apply for the position of CEO at a large not-for-profit organisation, which was her dream job!
However, that dream job would be paying considerably less than she would earn by continuing in her own business and there would be less flexibility around working hours.
There was her dilemma – continue in business to give her the best opportunity to build her wealth or take that dream job.
Which would you choose?
