Business & Life Intertwine
I went to a recent networking group breakfast, feeling uninspired and had no idea of what I would say during the one-minute presentation about my business. As a result, when it was my turn to talk, I stood, told the meeting that I had nothing for them that morning and promptly sat down.
The context around that feeling was earlier in the morning, I woke to find our family’s beloved black Labrador was not interested in eating his breakfast. I was concerned as I could not remember when he has not been interested in food! Given this, I rang and made an appointment to see the vet later that day.
When Andrea & I visited the vet, it became clear our pooch was suffering from the effects of cancer. As a result, we made the difficult and emotional choice to have him put to sleep. As he was such an integral part of our family, this is a loss we will feel for many months to come.
As with every experience in life there is a lesson to be learned. For me, as a business owner, the lesson from this experience is that no matter how hard we may try to keep business & life separate, they are intertwined…what happens in our business will show up in our life and how we are feeling about our life will show up in our business.
