What Are You Doing Sitting Here Talking To Me?
“Why are you sitting here talking to me?”
I challenged my client 30 minutes into our coaching conversation.
Our conversation was her describing her idea to hold a Dungeons and Dragons workshop focused on children with learning difficulties. It was brilliant. She was enthusiastic. And she was doing what so many business owners do: talking about it instead of doing it.
My client stopped and looked at me, eyes wide. “What do you mean?”
“Since we started, all I’m hearing is talk and no action. The local library is across the road. They have available rooms. Go and book the room.”
She leaned back unsure. “What now?”
“Yes. Now. What are you waiting for?”
She banged her hand on the table, stood up. “You’re right. I’m going to do it!”
She left.
About 20 minutes later, she returned with a spring in her step and a smile on her face. “I’ve done it! I’ve booked the room for the workshop in a week’s time!”
“How do you feel?”
She paused. “Excited about the workshop. Nervous about organizing it. But… I’ve actually done something.”
After the workshop, she messaged me:
“It was chaotic and informative! The actual session was too old for the kids I invited, but I was able to pivot in the moment. Thanks again for everything!”
She’d run the workshop. It didn’t go exactly as planned. But she moved from idea to action to execution. And when things didn’t work, she adapted.
Her Google review describes in her own words what happened:
“What sets him apart is how practical the sessions are. Rather than just talking about goals, he had me take real action on the spot. He creates space to work through ideas and doubts, but keeps things moving toward concrete outcomes. I’ve come away from each session more motivated and confident about what’s possible.”
While talk and planning are essential, action is what transforms ideas into reality. And sometimes all someone needs is for someone to ask: “Why are you still sitting here? Go do it.”
