Self Help is the Best Help
Recently a client graciously loaned me a copy of “Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One” by Raphelle Giordano.
This book is a unique fusion of self-help principles interwoven within a fictional narrative. The central character is Camille, a Parisian woman, who undergoes a transformative journey with the guidance of Claude, a “routinologist.”
In reflecting on the book, I drew the following three insights:
- The concept of acute routinitis, as explained by Claude to Camille, struck a chord with me. The symptoms described resonated deeply as there have been instances in my life where I grappled with feelings of dissatisfaction and disorientation.
- The book underscored the idea, meaningful change must always be self-initiated. This sentiment echoed a motivational message displayed in my office: “If it is to be it is up me!” The message served to remind me I control my own destiny.
- A pivotal takeaway is the importance of having an impartial support system during times of transformation. Claude’s role exemplifies the value of guidance from someone outside our immediate circle of friends & family, highlighting the transformative potential of coaching & mentorship.
Upon enquiring about my client’s perspective, they made the following observations:
“You are the one with the power to shake up your own life, it’s not the responsibility of others.
It also helped me realise that even though someone may not have qualifications, it does not mean that their guidance or advice is any less valuable. See how life changing Claude’s guidance is, just by his life experience, not a piece of paper that says he is qualified to do so.”
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly endorse this book to those seeking motivation to create the life + business to which they truly aspire. It seamlessly integrates practical wisdom with an engaging narrative, offering readers a refreshing and accessible pathway to personal growth.
