Come to the edge…
In the past week I had a conversation with two brothers who were struggling to start a project, which if successful would secure the future of the business for many years to come.
Whilst the analysis of the project showed a great upside, the project required a significant upfront capital cost. As the business had struggled financially through the Covid years, the brothers were concerned about whether the business could fund that cost. They were more worried about what happens if it all goes wrong rather than be excited by what the project will bring them.
In considering my role in this conversation, I was reminded of the following poem by Christopher Logue:
“Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to edge.
It’s too high.
Come to the edge.
And they came,
And he pushed,
And they flew.”
The outcome was that, with a little push, the brothers are seeking the funds for stage 1 of the project!
